Picnic at the north shore beach while sipping your Renato Corino Barolo. In the northwest corner of Italy, lying south of the Alps, north of Genoa and just east of the French border is the Piemonte region. Though not much visited by Americans, it is a tourist destiny for wine and food lovers in Europe. The very small town of Barolo is famous for producing wines from the nebbiolo grape (named for fog – both the way the grapes look and the region which has lots of fog in the fall and winter). The winemakers of Barolo differentiate between village wines, vineyard designated wines and the wines from “special vineyards”. This is a village wine an at 10 years old, should be ready to drink paired with anything earthy – meat, mushrooms, root vegetables. Decant at least two hours ahead of time and take your time drinking it. It will change during the meal. Wine kindly donated by SDCBF Board Member, Allen Snyder.
