End your day of exploration by popping the cork on the 2003 Siro Pacenti Brunello. Brunello is a small wine region lying in the southern part of Tuscany, southwest of Siena. The vineyards lie around the town of Montalcino which is famous both for these wines and also as the redoubt to which the final defenders of Siena fled when the Florentines conquered Siena in 1554. It’s made from the Sangiovese Grosso clone (unique to Montalcino) which creates intense and long developing wines. This wine is from a warm vintage meaning – it likely had more sugar to start and thus more alcohol – and is more than 15 years after the vintage, so it should be in prime drinking condition. Wine kindly donated by SDCBF Board Member, Allen Snyder.
