Mouton Rothschildt 1986 – Valued at $1500

The Mouton Rothschildt is from famous Bordeaux producers. It has been perfectly stored and is fully mature at this point. I recommend you open and decant at least two hours before you plan to enjoy. Personally, I have found that double decanting the wines helps even wines of this quality. Mouton Rothschildt was most famously owned by the Baron Philippe de Rothschildt in its most important phase. The wine is composed primarily of cabernet sauvignon with small amounts of merlot and cabernet franc. Mouton was originally ranked as a second growth in the 1855 tasting. It was upgraded to first growth status in 1973. Each wine bottle produced before 1973 contained the motto (in French) “First, I cannot be. Second, I do not deign to be. Mouton I am.” For us, the Baron may be best known for his partnership with Robert Mondavi in creating Opus One which combined grapes and skills from both California and Bordeaux to create a truly international wine and brand. If you have ever seen a bottle of Opus One, the drawing profiles both the Baron and Mondavi. No shortage of ego there. This is another iconic wine, appropriate for an important milestone in your life.
