SAN DIEGO (July 26, 2021) – The San Diego County Bar Foundation (SDCBF) is currently accepting grant applications for the Indigent Criminal Defense Fund and the General Grant Fund.

Aligning with Foundation’s mission and purpose, grants are awarded to non-profit legal-aid and public interest organizations that offer legal services and promote the understanding of the legal system with funds used to assist indigent criminal defense, immigrants and asylum seekers, low-income communities, survivors of domestic violence, people with disabilities, veterans, the homeless, low-income seniors and at-risk youth. The grants also support programs that educate children and adults about individuals’ rights and responsibilities.

The Foundation’s funds come from generous contributions from the local legal and business communities and from fundraising programs throughout the year. Since its inception, the Foundation has granted over $4 million to more than 50 legal-aid and public interest organizations providing education and direct support to the underserved community in San Diego County.

The Indigent Criminal Defense Fund application deadline is August 1, 2021 at 11:59 pm. Funding will be provided exclusively for the furtherance of and to support Indigent Criminal Defense purposes, including programs, projects and activities in San Diego County.

The General Grant Fund application deadline is September 1, 2021 at 11:59 pm. Applications that facilitate and expand the availability of legal services, improve the administration of justice and the San Diego Court System; and/or promote public understanding of the law, will be considered.

The Foundation will also consider funding for start-up projects or on-going program support, and new applicants are encouraged to contact the Foundation’s Director of Administration prior to applying at info@sdcbf.org.

All grant information and the online grant application link can be found at sdcbf.org/grant-programs/.
