John Barrett

John H. Barrett was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1913. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton in 1935 and his law degree from the University of Maryland in 1938. He served with distinction in the U.S. Navy in Word War II which allowed him to discover San Diego. After working in the District Attorney’s office, John joined Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch in 1959 where he became a partner and remained until his retirement in 1980. In his practice, John was a very well known and distinguished trial attorney and an enormous resource in all matters relating to legal ethics. More than that, John was extremely well-liked by everyone who knew him as evidenced by his election as the 1974 President of the San Diego County Bar Association. John lived in Rancho Santa Fe with his wife, Lou Anne. He was an active member of the Rancho Santa Fe Country Club. John was a gentleman in every wayrespected by his colleagues, his clients and by the judges before whom he appeared. He certainly fit the characterization of "A Lawyer and a Gentleman."
