Mr. John Alessio

John D. Alessio was a 4th generation San Diegan, award-winning litigator, legal leader, and community advocate. At the time of his passing, he had been serving as the Managing Partner of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch for nearly seven years. John guided Procopio the COVID-19 pandemic while growing the firm in revenue and geography.

In his legal practice, John focused on complex class action, business and employment litigation with particular experience in trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition, real estate, banking and lending, shareholder and contractual disputes to include cross-border issues. John joined Procopio as a partner in 2008 after an already extensive legal career. He was recognized by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers, was annually ranked on the San Diego Business Journal SD 500 list, and in 2020 was named by the magazine to its SD 50 Leaders Making a Difference list.

John was active in professional associations including Entrepreneurs Organization and PEERS San Diego, served as a Director for the World Design Capital San Diego-Tijuana, and co-founded Red Autismo, a nonprofit in Los Cabos providing specialized attention to children with autism.

He was a proud graduate of the University of San Diego with a BS in Business Administration and a JD from its School of Law, supporting scholarships for students in need of financial assistance.

John is survived by his wife Sofia Alessio, a retired tax attorney; daughters Paulina Alessio and Andrea Alessio; his mother, Katherine Alessio; and siblings and their spouses Dominique Alessio Nielander and Stephen Nielander, Elise Alessio Norman and Roger Norman, and Ashley Alessio Muncey and Edward Muncey.
