Mr. James Crosby

Self-Employed - Attorney
SDCBF Director

There are few attorneys in San Diego County who better understand the dynamics and strategies of commercial and business disputes and who have successfully handled the wide variety of complex matters from both the plaintiff and defense side that Jim Crosby has. A Southern California native, Jim has honed his litigation and trial skills over a 35+ year career and has played a vital role in the success of many San Diego businesses and individuals. Primarily, Jim represents entities and individuals in complex and general business, commercial, contract, intellectual property, unfair competition, securities, real property, and business tort litigation in state and federal courts. He has significant experience in nearly all areas of business litigation and trial work and is often asked to share his expertise through national and local speaking and writing engagements. Often times, Jim is a “go to” attorney for larger law firms in need of additional counsel or expertise, and he also works side-by-side as an advisor and co-counsel for less experienced litigators in complex matters. His accolades and recognitions throughout his career include receiving the highest ranking of 10.0, Superb, from AVVO. He has also been named a “Top Attorney” by the San Diego Daily Transcript and a “Top Lawyer” by San Diego Magazine and has been named a “San Diego Super Lawyer” for the past five years. In addition, Jim has been named to the San Diego Business Journal’s list of the “Best of the Bar.” Jim is a recognized leader in San Diego’s legal community. Jim regularly mentors less experienced attorneys and has served in a variety of high-profile volunteer leadership roles. He recently served as a Commissioner on the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluations (JNE Commission), the group that helps California’s governor assess candidates for judicial appointment. Jim has also served as the President of the Board of Directors of the University of San Diego School of Law Alumni Association, as Vice President and Treasurer of the San Diego County Bar Association and as President of the Bar Association of Northern San Diego County. Additionally, Jim’s volunteer leadership has included serving on the Board of Directors of the Casa Cornelia Law Center, as a member of the Board of Directors of the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, and as President of the San Diego County Law Library Board of Trustees. Jim chaired the Civil Litigation Sections of both the San Diego County Bar Association and the Bar Association of Northern San Diego County and has served on numerous other committees of both professional organizations. Truly committed to the serving his community, Jim routinely provides pro bono legal services, most recently providing representation to political asylum seekers in immigration proceedings, plaintiffs in an active San Diego County housing discrimination case, and of a prisoner plaintiff in an active civil rights case upon appointment by the United States District Court for the Southern District of California under the Southern District of California’s Plan for the Representation of Pro Se Litigants in Civil Cases. Jim earned his undergraduate degree from San Diego State University and his law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.
